I have been making art for as long as I can remember. As a child, long before I knew anything about art or how powerful it can be, I would sit for hours and doodle on what seemed like an endless supply of scrap paper. My favorite toys were often those that I made myself out of oil-based clay. Of course, back then I didn't call it art, I called it play.
My family and friends have always been very supportive of my creative aspirations. My elder brother, a musician, introduced me to the progressive rock band Tool, who is renown for their innovative cover art and spectacular performances. I knew I wanted to take art more seriously when I first saw the work of visionary artist Alex Grey. I also gravitated towards surreal artists such as Chet Zar, Cam de Leon, and Salvador Dali.
I've been very fortunate to have had some fantastic teachers, even though I may have thought differently of them at the time. I attended Hanford High, where I produced some of my first paintings and ceramics. When I turned 19 I decided to move to Visalia and study fine art at the College of the Sequioas. Their art department contained a wealth of information and inspiration, not just from the instructors but from the numerous talented students. In my short time there, my skills improved and I learned that I should not limit myself to just a few mediums. The ideas began flows from my mind faster than I could physically render, and hasn't slowed much since. I must employ a variety of mediums, techniques and tools in order to bring these ideas into the physical world.
Currently I produce oil paintings, acrylic paintings, drawings, collages, pottery, sculpture, and some digital art from my home/studio. I enjoy working on many different projects at a relaxed pace. The subjects in my work often include references to science, nature, pop-culture, counter culture, and even politics. I am also accepting commissions/freelance work to help fund my little studio.
