Battalion Chief Doyle Sewell

Battalion Chief Doyle Sewell is a Redwood High School Alumni. Chief Sewell began his career with the Visalia Fire Department in 1989.  He was promoted to Battalion Chief in 1999. The programs he is responsible for include Emergency Medical Services, Buildings and Grounds and Apparatus.  Chief Sewell oversaw the completion of Visalia's newest Fire Station and Training Facility.

Battalion Chief Danny Wristen

Battalion Chief Danny Wristen began his career with the Visalia Fire Department in April of 1992.  He promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief in December of 1999. Chief Wristen has served as Fire Marshal, Administrative Battalion Chief and as a Shift Battalion Chief.  He has been involved in Emergency Preparedness, Hazardous Material Response, Technical Rescue and many other fire department programs. Chief Wristen holds an AS Degree in Fire Science from Fresno City College.

Battalion Chief Darrin Hughes Training Battalion Chief Darrin Hughes graduated from San Joaquin Delta College where he obtained his AA Degree in Fire Technology.  Chief Hughes started in the fire service in 1991 as a Firefighter/EMT with the San Joaquin Delta Fire Department near Stockton, Ca.  He then went on to the Visalia Fire Department in January 1996.  Chief Hughes is a Certified State Fire Marshal, Fire Officer and is currently working on his Chief Officer Certification.

In April 2009, Chief Hughes elected to leave his Engine Captain assignment to fill the newly formed Training Officer position.  In his time in the Training Division, he has developed a two year training calendar with a monthly training schedule program, implemented a Firefighter Survival Program for all Visalia Fire Personnel in 2010 and updated instructional materials to enhance our current fire suppression training.  Chief Hughes also facilitates many classes at the new State of the Art Training Facility and classroom with various fire professionals, motivational speakers and outside agencies.

In order to utilize the only local training facility of its size and capabilities, Chief Hughes has established fire training agreements with the College of the Sequoias, Fresno City College, and Lindsay Public Safety Department.  Not only are local fire departments utilizing this training facility, but Chief Hughes has worked with the Visalia Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics team in order to facilitate training and set up classes for local police officers from throughout the Central Valley.

Chief Hughes is also the Instructor of Record for the department's California Firefighter Joint Apprentice Committee Training Program.  This is a California wide training program that reimburses for monthly tracking of probationary apprentice employees.  With the financial assistance of this program, the Training Division has purchased "The Inforcer" forcible entry prop and TargetSafety, which is an online firefighting and medical training system.  Also purchased utilizing CFFJAC funds were, updated versions of firefighting instructional books for all the fire stations and training center.

Administratively, Chief Hughes maintains all certification records of nearly 70 fire personnel and also the department's DMV Employee Pull Notice Program.  

Chief Hughes is happily married to his lovely wife Kimberly of 15 years and has four children.  His youngest son Branden will be attending the College of the Sequoias next fall to attend the COS Fire Academy and hopefully will follow in his father's footsteps in the fire service.

Administrative Officer Captain -Paramedic Dustin Hall

Captain Dustin Hall began his career with the Visalia Fire Department in 2000; he was part of the first class of four, the fire department sponsored to go to Paramedic School. He graduated from Paramedic School in 2005. he was promoted to the rank of Engineer Paramedic in 2005 and then in 2009 was promoted to the rank of Captain Paramedic. In early 2010, Captain Hall assumed the role and responsibility of EMS Coordinator while working at Fire Station 51. Captain Hall has assisted with instructing recruit academies and also serves as an Adjunct Fire Instructor with the College of the Sequoias.  Most recently, he was instrumental in establishing the Firefighters for Christ Chapter in our local area.  Captain Hall is a member of our CA Type II Medium Rescue Team and of the Visalia Fire Department Honor Guard.  Captain Hall is also a Fire Officer, Paramedic, CCEMSA Paramedic Preceptor, Cal Chief's EMS Specialist, the City of Visalia Designated Infectious Control Officer and a Haz Mat FRO.

Captain Hall is in the process of completing his AS Degree in Fire Science and a BA in Business.

Senior Administrative Analyst - Nancy Renovato

Nancy Renovato is a Senior Administrative Analyst with the Visalia Fire Department.  She has been with the City of Visalia for eleven years, serving in various capacities.  In March of 2011, Nancy joined the Fire Department working under the direction of Fire Chief Mark Nelson.  In her present role, she is responsible for overseeing the budget, purchasing, personnel, reports and special projects. 

Nancy graduated from Redwood High School and has a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration.  Nancy is married and has two children, Joe 17 and Joanne 6.  In her spare time, Nancy enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends.
