Earth Day 2012

The City of Visalia's Natural Resource Conservation Division and the Visalia Environmental Committee would like to thank the many volunteers that participated in the two Earth Day projects on April 15th, 2012.  All volunteers met on Sunday, April 15th at the Visalia Earth Day regsitration booth beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Mill CreeK & Lovers Lane site (West of Mill Creek Park off of Lovers Lane).

The 1st project consisted of a cleanup along Mill Creek between Lovers Lane and Burke Street.  Earth Day volunteers helped to spread mulch, remove trash and invasive plant species that have collected along the banks of Mill Creek.  The 2nd Earth Day event was a planting project along the St. John's River Riparian Cooridor.  Earth Day volunteers helped to plant 300 trees and 600 shrubs and grasses along St. John's River.

All volunteers were invited back to the registration booth area at noon to enjoy a delicious SUBWAY Sandwich and cold Odwalla fruit drinks.

Earth Day was a great way for Visalia's residents and businesses to actively participate in community improvement projects that help to increase awareness and affirms a sense of environmental stewardship and community pride.
