Earth Day 2011
On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the City of Visalia’s Natural Resource Conservation Division and Visalia Environmental Committee hosted a very successful Earth Day 2011 event. Beginning at 8am, volunteers of all ages met at the City parking lot on the corner of Mineral King Ave. and Conyer St., in downtown Visalia.
After registering, volunteers selected one three Mill Creek cleanup and planting projects. During the morning’s registration, volunteers were treated to free coffee and hot chocolate provided by Starbucks and breakfast snacks provided by the many Earth Day donors and sponsors. The three Mill Creek beautification projects were:
1. County Center to the Tulare County Board of Supervisors office
2. S. Dollner St. to S. Stevenson St.
3. E. Center Ave. between N. Ben Maddox and N. Burke St.
Volunteers helped to remove trash, collect recyclables, remove green waste, plant water efficient plants and replaced a decomposed granite trail along a stretch of Mill Creek.
The volunteers returned to the exhibitor’s area for a SUBWAY sandwich provided at cost by SUBWAY and a cold drink donated by Odwalla. Green exhibitors provided resource conservation information and demonstrations.
