New Perry Family Park

Opened Saturday, November 12, 2011

Release Date: November 15, 2011

Visalia’s newest neighborhood park opened to the public on Saturday morning, November 12, 2011 as 500 enthusiastic citizens visited the park during the formal grand opening held between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. The park is located at the intersection of Visalia Parkway and County Center in southeast Visalia.

The 3.5 acre park, located immediately east of Cottonwood Elementary School, will be known as the new Perry Family Neighborhood Park.  The City’s Parks and Recreation Commission formally named the park in accordance with the City’s sponsorship donation policy, as the Perry family provided a generous donation to the City to assist with the construction of the park.

The new park, located adjacent to Packwood Creek, features a beautiful sheltered playground with play equipment for both younger and older children. The park also has a small shade shelter for parties, a half-court basketball court, open space turfed area for active play, a perimeter sidewalk that loops around the park for walking enthusiasts, several picnic tables and benches, lots of new trees and drought tolerant landscaping.

Visalia Vice-Mayor Amy Shuklian spoke to the crowd during the formal dedication ceremony and said, “This is a beautiful neighborhood park nestled amongst the mature Valley Oaks of Packwood Creek --- and an investment in this neighborhood, our community, and our youth.”

The park was designed by Royston, Hanamoto, Alley & Abey (RHAA) from Mill Valley, CA. and the general contractor that built the park was BMY Construction from Fresno. The park was built on time, and on budget, at a final cost of roughly $850,000.00. In addition to the Perry family donation, financing for the park project came from new housing development park impact fees.
