Frequently Asked Questions:
I have already had a live scan done. Do I have to be fingerprinted again? Yes, the goal of the live scan is to use the fingerprints to do the actual background check, not to obtain another set of fingerprints.
How long does the live scan process take? The average wait time to receive your results is approximately one to two weeks, depending on the flow of live scan applications to the Department of Justice. Also, the results of your criminal history check will not be sent directly to you. They will be sent to your employer, & it is up to them to contact you.
How do I check the status of my fingerprint submission? If a requesting agency does not have results yet and digital Live Scan fingerprints were submitted, you can use the automated telephone system (916-227-4557) to check on the status of your submission. You will need the following information: (1) your date of birth; and (2) the 10-digit Automated Transaction Identifier (ATI) number that appears at the bottom of the Department of Justice form requesting Live Scan fingerprint background checks. The ATI number always appears in the following sequence: 1 LETTER; 3 NUMBERS; 3 LETTERS and 3 NUMBERS (EXAMPLE: I000ABC000).
