The traffic enforcement officers offer a number of basic, common-sense tips to avoid both citations and collisions:
1. Leave earlier for your destination, allowing time for traffic signals or traffic congestion.
2. Obey speed limits. The faster you drive, the longer it takes to stop your vehicle, and the less time you have to react to an unexpected circumstance. Also, by driving the posted speed limit, and leaving sufficient room between you and the vehicle in front of you, you allow yourself enough time and space to safely stop for a red traffic signal.
3. Signal light cycles coincides with the speed of the roadway they are controlling. If you are approaching a signalized intersection and the light turns yellow, driving at the posted limit will allow you sufficient time and distance to stop. If you have to brake heavily to stop or feel that accelerating will get you safely through the intersection, then you are likely exceeding the posted speed limit. ____________________________________________________________________________
