History

Initiated by the City of Visalia in 1981, the Visalia Transit (VT) public transit system provides fixed-route and demand-response transit services within the Visalia Urbanized Area.  An estimated population of 126,500 resides within Visalia Transit's 40 square mile service area. Visalia Towne Trolley was introduced in November, 1998 to provide trolley bus service in the downtown Visalia area.

The City finances Visalia Transit through a combination of fare revenues, Tulare County's Measure R, Transportation Development Act (sales tax), and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5307 funds, among other state, federal, and local grants/revenues.

Visalia Transit is constantly striving to improve its service, expand offerings, and meet the needs of all passengers. Please visit the Visalia Transit Planning page for more information on the system planning efforts undertaken by Visalia Transit.
